Should there be a renaissance of older car models?

Let’s say GM and Chrysler start making cars modeled after those from the 1950′s and 60′s. You know? Cherry cars! If they made all their new models resemble cherry cars and run off lithium batteries would that help reinvigorate their economy? I believe the new Chevy Volt coming out next year is supposed to run off lithium and then have a fuel efficient car that is activate after 40 miles. If they had a resurgence of older models with new green technology, would that benefit them?
