Answer by MikeGolfMost of the new technologies are in the background and never really seen by the non professionals.
One example is the use of criminal analysis software and databases that were developed to track criminal activity for police departments have been adapred by our intelligence services to track terrorists.
Other new technologies are tamper-resistent passports backed up with biometeric data to verify a person’s identity. (Makes it much harder for a terrorist to travel under a false identity.)
