Question by : Would you believe me If I told you how to solve the energy crisis ?
I am an entrepreneurial inventor with only a high school diploma . I was watching footage of a Navy sub that sprang a leak , only it didn’t just spring a leak it completely filled the sub with pressurized sea water in less than a second , and a light bulb went off in my head . What if that immense energy could be utilized to spin turbines and create electricity ? So after many nights online reading about hydro-physics I designed my ************** . They basically convert oceanic static water pressure into usable energy . Hydrogen and electricity to be exact while the only release is oxygen into the air . Now I have come across many knuckleheads who knock my idea saying it is impossible and that you can’t have a net gain . I say blow me , yes you can , ocean pressure is a vast un-tapped clean way of producing endless energy for billions all the while being 100% renewable . Now even after that I’d love to hear your pseudo-educated response telling me how retarded I am and how it won’t work because of this or that law fine , just know they told Ford cars would be too expensive to mass produce now look . The only real object I can infer is the cost and getting someone to fund me . I truly believe it is possible , if only I could find someone to help me get the idea mainstream and properly researched and funded .

Best answer:

Answer by Diggum Shobum
I personally love the idea.

How about this one:

You build a tall chasm like a tower but hollow and put it in a body of water. At the bottom you have a tunnel that lets that water out into another body of water.

Inside the chasm are mechanisms that are spun when the water falls down the chasm.

Endless supply of moveable energy.

Gloucester, VA (PRWEB) April 19, 2009

In the winter of 2005, The Syn’s founding member, songwriter, and lead vocalist Steve Nardelli participated in a phone interview with his good friend and elementary school teacher Steve Sikes-Nova. Sikes-Nova had taught in the rural Gloucester County, Virginia, public school system for over 10 years at the time and had met and befriended Nardelli through contacts via Sikes-Nova’s internet radio station. Despite being in San Francisco for a concert, Nardelli committed to share his belief in the importance of music in a well-rounded education with Sikes-Nova’s internet radio audience through talking with Sikes-Nova, his school’s community education coordinator, and his school’s music teacher. Nardelli promised then and there that, should The Syn return live to the east coast in the future, the band would play a benefit concert for music and arts education in Gloucester County.

“The life of the arts, far from being an interruption, a distraction, in the life of the nation, is close to the center of a nation’s purpose – and is a test to the quality of a nation’s civilization.” — John F. Kennedy

Fast-forward three years. On April 27 & 28, 2009, at the beginning of an intensive tour schedule that takes The Syn cross country and back, Nardelli makes good on his promise. The Syn, whose core 2009 lineup consists of Nardelli, Francis Dunnery (It Bites; The Robert – Led Zeppelin – Plant Band), and Tom Brislin (Yes’ Symphonic Tour – sat in for the legendary Rick Wakeman on keyboards; Spiraling) and joined by both Brett Kull and Paul Ramsey of prog rock’s Echolyn, play Gloucester High School’s 800 seat auditorium. It turns out that Nardelli’s promise to Sikes-Nova – now in his 15th year of teaching in the Gloucester County Public School System – could not have been realized at a better moment in time. In this tough economy, and with the local newspaper sporting a headline which read ‘Bleak Picture given of County’s Finances’ (Gloucester-Mathews Gazette Journal, 3/5/09), the money raised by these two benefit concerts might just make a substantial difference in the opportunities available for students of music, arts, and media education at Gloucester High School in 2009.

The Syn to Work Directly with Students in Unique Interactive Workshops

In addition to the two evening concerts, Nardelli and The Syn will also deliver music history, music performance, songwriting, and even business education content to the students of Gloucester High during the day on April 28th. The band is very excited about participating in these intimate workshops and about talking with GHS students in small group settings. The band even plans to eat lunch with GHS students in their cafeteria!

Besides being world-class musicians, both Nardelli and Dunnery own their own media companies – Umbrello Music Entertainment, LLC, and Aquarian Nation Records, respectively – which opens up workshop topics to include both the artistic and business aspects of making and distributing music in the new millennium. Steve Nardelli states, “Francis, Tom, Brett, Paul and I are really looking forward to talking about all of what we do directly with the students.”

Nardelli’s own sessions will also provide a unique window into what it was like being at the center of events during the formative years of modern rock ‘n roll as he will no doubt tell about The Syn opening for Jimi Hendrix, The Pink Floyd, and other iconic British bands at the famous Marquee Club in London in the late 1960s.

The Gloucester performances and The Syn’s ‘Big Sky Tour 2009′ will feature songs both from the eclectic new ‘Big Sky’ album and from The Syn’s 2005 classic CD ‘Syndestructible’. Segments of both the concerts and the interactive student workshops will be filmed for eventual broadcast on Nardelli’s cutting-edge HD-IPTV portal, Umbrello.tv (http://umbrello.tv).

The Syn are also scheduled to perform live and unplugged on Gloucester County’s WXGM-FM radio morning show and will both perform and act as guest DJ’s on WRRW-FM Williamsburg, VA’s public radio station’s ‘Revolutionary Radio’ show.

Steve Nardelli’s lyrics say it best, “I’ve got love right here in my heart, and I’ve got hope that won’t fade away; I’ve got faith that stands me apart, and I’ve got dreams to show me the way.” Steve Nardelli, Big Sky, 2009, Umbrello Records.

Review of ‘Big Sky’ by The Syn – Music and Education as Partners for Positive Change

The Syn’s new 2009 album ‘Big Sky’ takes the band’s benchmark 2005 offering ‘Syndestructible’ to the next level with both a new thematic urgency and a broader and more widely accessible melodic direction. Syn founding member, lead vocalist, and songwriter Steve Nardelli stays true to his classic themes of the power of dreams and aspirations; to his belief that everyone has worth and that everyone matters; and to his conviction that hope and love spring eternal. However, although “There is a bigger sky, there is an ocean wide, and it’s waiting” there is now “a city burned” and it is ” time for renewal, no hesitating.” The songs that Nardelli wrote for ‘Big Sky’ flow seamlessly into each other and form a coherent, positive, yet increasingly alarmed and alarming impression about the direction that the world around him is taking. While Nardelli sings that action must be taken now rather than later lest we lose our “chance to get it right,” he also sings in songs like ‘Madonna and Child’ and ‘Milo’ about his and everyone’s need for shelter from the storm.

A lot has happened to both the world and to Nardelli personally since The Syn’s first full album and the band’s first music in almost 40 years, ‘Syndestructible’, almost broke the Billboard top 100 in 2005-6. For 2009, Nardelli has put together a totally new band and although progressive rock fans will find much to really enjoy here, The Syn have definitely moved in a new direction which lies much closer to Nardelli’s musical roots in the late 1960s. ‘Big Sky’ showcases Steve Nardelli’s top-tier singing with his smoky voice and his confident phrasing, but its broader 2009 palette now reflects the influences of Motown, jazz, The Beatles, and Bob Dylan. Before Yes there was The Syn, but now in a much more subtle way. And this is a very good thing. For even though there is enough musical firepower in this new lineup to vie for the lead position with Nardelli’s inspired songwriting with both guitarist Francis Dunnery and keyboardist Tom Brislin as core members of The Syn, Dunnery’s excellent production keeps the focus squarely on Nardelli, his voice, and his lyrical and thematic vision. And the addition of backing vocalist Dorie Jackson – who asked to come on board the project late after she heard some of ‘Big Sky’s songs performed live – is simply brilliant.

As a special, general, and gifted educator with over 15 years of teaching experience in Virginia’s public schools and as a social work clinician who has provided clinical and counseling services to vastly different populations and ages in diverse settings, I find ‘Big Sky’ to be music that supports, inspires, at times comforts, at times confronts, yet primarily provides an important reality-focused wake-up call to all of us that the time for sitting on the sidelines is well past. Our world is hurting and requires both focused energy and direct, positive action taken by both our youth and our mentors. For while the Steve Nardelli of 2005′s ‘Syndestructible’ told young people that “in the City of Dreams, dreams come true” and that “nobody will fail”, 2009 has Nardelli penning an album-length challenge which states that although we can still “find a new reality and realize our dreams” we are clearly “living in dangerous times.”

When all is said and done, it is Steve Nardelli’s 1960s-in-the-1990s message of hope and love that really shines through in ‘Big Sky’, however. For while the “Devils and Demons” of a world in crisis are inescapably here to “try and drag us under”, Nardelli sings

“I’ve got love right here in my heart

And I’ve got hope that won’t fade away

And I’ve got faith that stands me apart

And I’ve got dreams to show me the way”

and continues,

“Through the thunder and the lightning and the storms of life

Through the battles and the fighting

And the struggles and the strife

Through the winning and the losing

It will be all right

In the darkest tunnel

There will be light.”

‘Big Sky’ concludes with the beautifully penned and sung

“Love is the reason

Love is the reason we survive;

Love is the reason, we’re alive.”

‘Big Sky’ by The Syn on Umbrello Records, 2009; a clear and compelling 10 out of 10.

Since launching at the Live Earth concerts worldwide in 2007, the EarthLab calculator has become the most widely used carbon calculator in the world by both consumers and businesses alike. The personalized Carbon Calculator is a unique three-minute survey that generates a carbon footprint score. Users save their score, then track their progress over time as they incorporate changes in their life to reduce their carbon footprint and save money. In addition, users can compare their personal results to others on the website, sorting by city, state, and country.

Andover, MA (PRWEB) April 22, 2009

WSI expects the upcoming three-month period (May-July) to average cooler than normal across parts of the Southeast and north-central US, with above-normal temperatures common across the Northeast and Southwest. WSI also expects the summer period (June-August) to be cool across the Southeast, mid-Atlantic, Ohio Valley, and southern and central Plains, with above-normal temperatures confined to the Rockies and Northeast. The WSI seasonal outlooks reference a standard 30-year normal (1971-2000).

“We expect most of the significant and prolonged heat this summer to be confined to drought-plagued areas of the western US,” said WSI seasonal forecaster Dr. Todd Crawford. “Our internal forecast models all suggest that the coolest temperatures, relative to normal, will be found in the Southeast this summer, with near to slightly above-normal temperatures in the Northeast. The North Atlantic and North Pacific Oceans are now both cooler than normal for the first time in 15 years. This fact, along with a lack of any significant drought conditions in the eastern US, should result in a relatively cool summer east of the Rockies. We do think that there is potential for some notable heat in the Northeast early in the summer, before a cooler pattern sets in.”

Hazlet, NJ (PRWEB) April 23, 2009

iCIMS, the third largest provider of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) talent acquisition solutions, announced today that the company’s CEO, Colin Day, has been recognized as one of seven finalists in the Green Executive of the Year category in the inaugural NJBIZ Green Leadership Awards.

The NJBIZ Green Leadership Awards honor and celebrate New Jersey’s businesses and executives for their achievements and initiatives committed to the environment in the state of New Jersey. The finalists are being recognized for their commitment to energy conservation, green education, environmental innovation, green building, pollution prevention, recycle/reuse, and alternative energy. Finalists will be recognized and the winners in each category will be announced during a luncheon awards ceremony on June 2, 2009.

CEO Colin Day expressed his enthusiasm over the NJBiz Green Leadership Awards, saying, “I am honored to be nominated for Green Executive of the Year and consider it recognition of the dedication and hard work of the entire iCIMS team in giving back to the environment.”

Day’s nomination stems largely from iCIMS’ iCARE program, an initiative which Day spearheaded that enables employees to support a clean and healthy environment through donations of time, talent, or money. In addition to company-wide beach and park clean-ups, iCIMS participates in such initiatives as purchasing Renewable Energy Certificates to offset iCIMS’ electric usage, supporting a matching policy for employee donations to renewable energy research facilities and maintaining partnerships with both Clean Ocean Action and Earth Share of New Jersey.

Furthermore, in conjunction with the iCARE program, iCIMS recently adopted a nearby beach through the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) in a demonstration of continuing commitment to the environment. Under this program, volunteers can adopt a beach and conduct biannual beach cleanups in the Spring and Fall to remove debris that threatens the environment. On April 17th, iCIMS’ employees joined together in a volunteer effort to do a beach sweep of this Union Beach, NJ location.

“I was very proud to see the iCIMS team come together yet again to support another important environmental cause,” said Day. “Channeling passion outside of working hours into the single, well-focused cause of giving back to the environment continues to be one of the defining characteristics of iCIMS.”

This press release was distributed through eMediawire by Human Resources Marketer (HR Marketer: http://www.HRmarketer.com) on behalf of the company listed above.

With ocean temperatures rising and trust in financial services diminished, chartered accountancy firm Accounts Assist is introducing a raft of measures to ensure that the firm remains a beacon of environmental, social and governance (ESG) best practice.

Similar to sustainability reports, the purpose of an ESG policy is to disclose information on how a business operates and what impact it is having on the environment and those it comes into contact with. Accounts Assist is taking all necessary steps to achieve ESG best practice, including introducing measures to limit energy, material and water usage and reduce any outputs that contribute to climate change and pollution. For example, the firm requires electronic processing of transactions wherever possible.

Accounts Assist is also committed to ensuring socially responsible relationships with its employees, customers, suppliers and communities. This includes working to maintain fairness and diversity in the workplace, responsible marketing, safety and accountability in the firm’s dealings with customers, as well as investment and respect for the local communities in which the company is based.

In addition, Accounts Assist’s management policies are structured to ensure that all policies are transparent and designed for the benefit of customers, employees and suppliers. For example, all service packages are described in detail with prices on the company website, and all business practices are conducted openly with a strong emphasis on clear, personal communications.

Quarterly updates on the success of all Accounts Assist initiatives relating to environmental, social and governance issues will be made publicly available, beginning this summer.

“Many businesses will state on their marketing materials that they are committed to buzz concepts such as corporate social responsibility or ethical trading, but few can demonstrate that this is being followed through in day-to-day business practices,” said Anita Brook, director of Accounts Assist. “Our focus on ESG is not just about being seen to recognise ethical practices; it is about making the fruits of our efforts known so that people can judge for themselves.”

About Accounts Assist

Accounts Assist is a growing firm of Chartered Certified Accountants specialising in accountancy and taxation services for small businesses, freelancers, contractors and consultants. The firm has offices in Silverstone and central London.

Accounts Assist was founded in 2008 by Anita Brook, an ACCA certified chartered accountant with over 10 years’ accounting experience.

Andover, MA (PRWEB) May 27, 2009

WSI Corporation’s updated 2009 hurricane season forecast continues to call for 11 named storms, 6 hurricanes, and 2 intense hurricanes (category 3 or greater).

These forecast numbers are the same as the previous WSI forecast issued in April due to a continuation of relatively cool tropical Atlantic Ocean temperatures and a trend towards El Nino conditions in the tropical Pacific. The 2009 forecast numbers are quite close to the long-term (1950-2008) average of 9.8 named storms, 6.0 hurricanes, and 2.5 intense hurricanes, but are significantly lower than the numbers from the relatively active seasons of the past 15 years.

The 2009 WSI tropical forecast comes on the heels of a very successful 2008 forecast. The WSI December forecast values of 14 named storms, 7 hurricanes, and 3 intense hurricanes were slightly smaller than the final observed 2008 values of 16/8/5. The subsequent updates improved the forecast further, as the April 2008 updated forecast values of 14 named storms, 8 hurricanes, and 4 intense hurricanes were the most accurate amongst the publicly-available forecasts issued last spring.

“Ocean temperatures in the tropical Atlantic are cooler, relative to normal, than at any time since 1994,” said WSI seasonal forecaster Dr. Todd Crawford. “Further, the recent La Nina event has now ended and a trend towards El Nino conditions has begun, and because of this we expect at least slightly above-normal wind shear in the tropical Atlantic this season. Neither the cooler tropical Atlantic nor the expected wind shear conditions are enabling for tropical activity this year. While we have persisted our forecast numbers in response to the latest information, future changes to our forecast are more likely to be towards smaller numbers than larger numbers.”

Energy and agricultural traders, insurance professionals and risk managers look to WSI for accurate, timely weather information around the clock and across the globe. The next full seasonal forecast package, which will include forecasts for summer temperatures in both the US and Europe, will be issued on June 23. The next update on the 2009 hurricane season will be issued on June 22.

I need help with the following questions for my physics class. Please help me, Thanks

1. One light year is the distance light travels in one year. This distance is equal to 9.461×10^15 (ten to the fifteenth power) m. After the sun,the star nearest to Earth is Alpha Centauri, which is about 4.35 light-years from earth. Express this distance in :
a. megameters
b. picometers

2. The pacific ocean has a surface area of about 166 241 700 km^2 (km squared) and an average depth of 3940 m. Estimate the volume of the Pacific Ocean in:
a. cubic centimeters
b. cubic millimeters

3.It is estimated that the sun will exhaust all of its energy in about ten billion years. By that time, it will hae radiated about 1.2×10^44 J (joules) of energy. Express this amount of energy in:

Andover, MA (PRWEB) May 28, 2009

WSI expects the upcoming summer (June-August) to average cooler than normal across most of the eastern US, with above-normal temperatures common across the western US. The highest probability for a cool summer is in the Southeast, while the Southwest, Rockies, and Northwest are most likely to have a warm summer. The WSI seasonal outlooks reference a standard 30-year normal (1971-2000).

“We expect most of the significant and prolonged heat this summer to be confined to drought-plagued areas of the western US,” said WSI seasonal forecaster Dr. Todd Crawford. “Our internal forecast models all suggest that the coolest temperatures, relative to normal, will be found in the Southeast this summer, with near to slightly below-normal temperatures in the Northeast. The North Atlantic and North Pacific Oceans are now both cooler than normal for the first time in 15 years. This fact, along with a lack of any significant drought conditions in the eastern US and a trend towards El Nino conditions, should result in a relatively cool summer east of the Rockies. We do think that the best chance for market-moving heat in the Northeast will be early in the summer, before a cooler pattern sets in during the last half of the summer.”

Monterey, Calif. (PRWEB) June 1, 2009

The Sea Change Design Consortium debuted at the Sustainable Brands Conference with inaugural members in the disciplines of design thinking, business strategy, consumer research, branding, public relations, interactive design, organizational development, and sustainability. The tightly-knit web of consultants is committed to designing life-affirming solutions to serious economic, social, and environmental challenges facing the world today.

Design is the common language for collaborating in an integrated and iterative fashion, with each Consortium member combining mastery in his or her own area of expertise with a working knowledge of the Sea Change Design Process(sm). This creative, generative methodology embraces a whole-system, whole-business point of view while recognizing the necessity of drawing from a deep authentic core. In use for over a decade, the process has helped build corporate innovation capabilities, search for new ways to protect human rights, inspire ocean conservation, and form global alliances around emerging technologies. Projects currently under consideration by the Sea Change Design Consortium include corporate governance, water, diversity, caring economics, local food systems, urban revitalization, and women and children’s issues.

According to Lauralee Alben, creator of the Sea Change Design Process and founder of the Consortium, “We believe that design is uniquely suited to help solve a wide range of challenges. That’s because we define design differently. We assert that design is the conscious planning of meaningful acts that influence our relationship to humanity, the future, the sacred, and the natural world. By designing with our clients and their stakeholders we can do together what no single entity can do alone: create a continuum from sustainable products and services to social movements to a global consciousness.”

Sea Change Design Consortium members believe that today’s formidable challenges require the combined experience and honed skills of people from wildly differing fields of expertise. Strong bonds need to be forged, connecting business with sustainability, science and industry with health and spirituality, politics with human rights, and communications with art and technology. A core tenet of the Consortium’s design approach is this: crises can be resolved and opportunities realized only when looking at the interdependencies and interrelationships of problems and their potential solutions.

About the Members

Alben Design serves as the hub of the Sea Change Design Consortium. We engage leaders in transformative strategies that foster integrity, innovation, and sustainability. As the source of the Sea Change Design Process, we provide inspiring products and services, workshops, coaching and training programs. These bring about resilient and robust change in lives, corporations, non-profits, professional forums, and academia. Recognized for our thought leadership, we speak and consult on challenges including business strategy, culture changes, human rights, ocean conservation, women’s leadership, and a partnership world. http://www.albendesign.com

Communications4Good tells strategic stories that create connections and inspire goodness in a sustainable world. As a triple bottom line public relations agency, we provide businesses, early stage companies and organizations with sustainability communications strategy, media relations and social media program implementation for company launches, product introductions, campaigns, and internal programs. We create messaging and content that matches aspirations, builds consensus, and energizes enthusiasm among all stakeholders. http://www.communications4good.com

Question by surferrunchick: Energy level for a 5 month old husky?
hi everyone! my husky puppy is 5 months old and boy has he grown, he’s almost 40 lbs! we went on vacation for 3 weeks to myrtle beach SC and he loved the ocean and adjusted well to the very hot weather. we drove 2 days on the road and he slept the whole way. As soon as we arrived home yesterday, he went berserk!!! we let him play in the yard for a few hours until he was ready for bed. Today he has been non stop running, energy level through the roof and whining and digging and just overall being a menace! he’s finally sleeping now, so my question is, is this normal behaviour for him? he’s not normally THIS hyper! could it be the the fact he was stuck in a car for 2 days and didn’t get his daily runs? please help! im just wondering if this high energy will last? i know huskies are very high energy level dogs and need lots of exercise and i give him plenty, at least an hour and half each day but i would like to know why he has been acting crazy today?! thanks!

Question by SoccerchocX: How does wave energy work? (Please answer quickish)?
In science we have to write this factsheet thing about wave energy and I don’t totally get it. Could someone explain it to me? I know that there is a magnet which is attached to the seabed, and it has a coil wrapped around it. The coil is attached to a rod thing which is attached to a buoy which floats on the surface of the ocean, and whenever the waves move this makes the buoy move, making the coil move. I know that this somehow makes the kinetic energy into electic energy. So the bit i dont get, is what happens in order to create the energy? Is it that the movement of the magnet inside the coil makes a magnetic field which then is turned into electric energy? And how does it get changed into electric energy?

Best answer:

Answer by Drphilbert
OK, you are almost there already with your answer… Firstly, Kinetic Energy is the energy a thing has when its moving (up, down, around, spinning… any sort of motion), so a wave energy device has to first make something move.
Some wave energy devices work by splitting a structure into 2 bits, one bit fixed stationary (called a spar, normally) and one which moves really easily with the waves (usually called the float). The float is forced by the wave, mostly by the fact that it is buoyant, to move up and down as it tries very hard to keep itself on the top surface of the sea. If you connect this moving part onto an electrical generator somehow then you can make this linear (up – down) motion become a torque (turning) motion. There are lots of ways to do that, but you can imagine how if you roll your pen between your fingers… your fingers move in a straight line but your pen turns… simple stuff…
Now generators are devices which turn kinetic energy (from the turning motion you just made happen) into electrical energy. This was discovered by Michael Faraday. Generators (at least really simple ones) work by moving a piece of metal in between 2 magnets… the magnets induce (force) the electrons in the metal to move, in a certain direction. Look up Faraday’s right or left hand rule, can’t remember which, and it will tell you which direction the electrical current (electrons) flow. The movement of electrons is the electrical energy you are looking for in your question.
So wave energy works by these steps… 1. make something which floats with the wave move up and down on a stationary thing. 2. connect this motion (kinetic energy) onto a spinning piece of metal which is in-between some magnets (a generator) 3. this makes electrons move and that is electrical energy… check out Wiki if you want the more technical answer, look up Electrical Generator… Hope that helped.

Give your answer to this question below!

Did you know that a quick movie digital download to your computer will let you watch some of the famous movies over and over? This is now an easy option thanks to all the technology that has made the Internet a reality.

When you find yourself on vacation around the Pacific Ocean you should take the time and check out the movie locations for yourself. One important item to remember though is movies are shot in all different kinds of locations. An example would be the blockbuster hit of 2000 known as Bedazzled. If you are in San Francisco, CA then you could visit City Hall where there were scenes shot. Then if you are heading to Los Angeles you could swing by 20th Century Fox, Stage 16 where some more scenes were shot for the movie. You will begin to feel like a part of the movie as you view the different locations.

If you are a Star Trek die hard fan then visit the set in Mammoth Lakes. While you are visiting the set you will learn that there are other movies that were shot here also. The famous 2002 movie The Scorpion King, in 1954 Rose Marie, and in 1975 there was The Other Side of the Mountain to name a few.

Your travels may find you in Hollywood at the Paramount Studios. Here you would be amazed seeing some of the different items from some huge hits that were shot at this location. You might see items from the fast paced movie of 2006 with Tom Cruise taking on another mission in Mission Impossible 3. Any Minnie Me fans would enjoy knowing Austin Powers 2 the spy who shagged me of 1999 was shot at this location also.

Maybe you enjoyed the movie Monster in Law with Jennifer Lopez and Jayne Fonda. This movie was made in a few different locations around California also. In Culver City you would need to visit Culver Studios. While you are in San Marino make sure to stop at the Lacy Park. There was also another film shot here in 2002 with Robin Williams playing the employee in One Hour Photo.

The list of great movies made around the Pacific Ocean is never ending. If you do not have the time to visit all the different locations of the movies then do the next best thing. Do a movie digital download in order to enjoy some of the great movies at your convenience. The movies can be downloaded right to your computer for you to view. Just remember to pop the popcorn and grab the soda before the movie starts.

Sausalito, Calif. (PRWEB) June 2, 2009

The Marine Mammal Center will unveil its newly rebuilt headquarters during a private ribbon cutting and celebration on June 5 in Sausalito, California. In November, 2005, the Center, which is one of the largest rescue and rehabilitation organizations for marine mammals in the country, began rebuilding its facility located on a decommissioned Nike missile site in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The $ 32 million transformation will improve the Center’s ability to care for and study marine mammals, provide a collaborative work environment for staff and volunteers, and offer the public the opportunity to learn about the connections they share with marine mammals and the ocean through exhibits and open viewing of animal care and work areas.

“As we anticipate the upcoming celebration of World Oceans Day on June 8, we all reflect back to 1975 when our founders’ vision was to build a rescue and rehabilitation unit for seals and sea lions in desperate need of help. They used what they had available, which was just a few bathtubs and pens made of chicken wire and made great use of this space here in the Marin Headlands, said Jeff Boehm The Marine Mammal Center’s executive director. “Now we have a state-of-the-art hospital, laboratories to support scientific research and dynamic public education exhibits designed to teach people about marine mammals and the ocean and inspire them towards greater stewardship.”

Highlights of The Marine Mammal Center’s New Hospital:

Innovative Use of Space: Among the most significant upgrades made to the Center is the transformation of one of the underground Nike missile silos into housing for a modernized water treatment system. The innovative system treats approximately 220,000 gallons of water in a closed system allowing for veterinarians to quadruple animal holding capacity. This was not possible in the previous system which could only handle 43,000 gallons of water, much of which was lost to evaporation and worn out pipes.

Improved Animal Care and Medical Analysis: The new animal care building moves the veterinarians out of military shipping containers and into professional buildings that bring together all of the necessary functions of marine mammal diagnosis, treatment, and

animal husbandry. The new on-site lab will reduce the time necessary for diagnosis and

treatment of seal and sea lion patients. In addition, the new pens and pools were built with the needs of specific marine mammal species in mind, including the design of both in ground and above ground pools that aid in faster rehabilitation.

Expanded Education Outreach: The newly rebuilt classroom will increase access to hundreds of the Center’s programs taught on site to over 10,000 Bay Area school children each year.

Animal and Medical Care Viewing: A ‘transparent’ design was incorporated into all of the buildings allowing visitors to see food preparation stations, animal care, and patient pools. Laboratories used for clinical medicine and research, as well as post-mortem examinations are on display and will bring the public much closer to the Center’s work. Marine science discovery areas with interpretive exhibits and a patient observation deck on the second level of the facility will also provide the public with a deeper knowledge of the Center’s work.

Reduced Energy Consumption: The modernized water treatment system, which is innovatively housed in former underground Nike missile silos, reduces water consumption and provides a healthier environment for the patients. The use of photovoltaic shade panels over the pens provides the patients a shaded resting area and allows the Center to decrease its overall energy consumption by nearly 10 percent. Many elements of the buildings are constructed from recycled materials, and radiant floor heating reduces energy consumption and compliments the Center’s overall “Green” footprint.

Private Ribbon Cutting Event – June 5:

Members of the media are invited to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony and celebration of the new hospital located at 2000 Bunker Rd., Fort Cronkhite, Sausalito, California. Contact Jim Oswald at (415) 289-7341 to arrange for media briefings ahead of the presentation.

5:00 – 8 AM – Live shots available

9:30 – 10:45 AM – Media pre-briefings by appointment

10:45-11:45 AM – Presentation and ribbon cutting. Presentations will be made by representatives from the offices of Speaker Pelosi, Senator Boxer and Congresswoman Woolsey and the National Park Service, as well as TMMC founder, Lloyd Smalley, TMMC Executive Director, Jeff Boehm, and TMMC Chair, Merrill Magowan. Media should arrive no later than 10 AM.

12:00- 2:00 PM – Guided Tours

Public Opening Beginning June 15:

Beginning on June 15, the public can visit the new hospital, research, and educational center, daily between 10 A.M. and 5 P.M. except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. Parking is limited and carpooling is recommended. March – November is peak season to view animal patients. Visitors can go to MarineMammalCenter.org or call 415-289-SEAL for additional information. Admission is FREE but donations are always welcome.

About The Marine Mammal Center: The Marine Mammal Center is a nonprofit veterinary hospital, research and educational center dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of ill and injured marine mammals, primarily elephant seals, harbor seals, and California sea lions, and to the study of their health. Since 1975, the Center has been headquartered in the Marin Headlands, within the Golden Gate National Parks, and has rescued and treated more than 14,000 marine mammals. Animals are rescued for a variety of reasons, including malnourishment, maternal separation, entanglements and human interactions as well as diseases. The Center’s education programs teach nearly 30,000 students and adults each year, with the goal of inspiring ocean conservation.

Question by ☮♥♫: Work and Energy Problem?
We’re working on work and energy right now, and I’m kind of confused. Here’s a problem we were assigned. I’m unsure on how to solve it. If you could help me out a bit (give me a hint or explain the steps), I would be so grateful! Thank you so much!

In 1936, Col. Harry Froboess of Switzerland jumped into the ocean from the airship Graf Hindenburg, which was 1.20 x 10² m above the water’s surface. Assiming Froboess had a mass of 72.0 kg, what was his kinetic energy at the moment he was 30.0 m from the water’s surface? What was his speed at that moment? Neglect the air resistance.

I know the formula for finding kinetic energy (KE = ½mv²) and potential energy (PE = mgh). But they don’t give you velocity, so I’m just kind of confused on how you would find the kinetic energy based on what they give you.

Any help would be great.
Thank you so much once again!

Best answer:

Answer by Kɥmǝr
Energy is conserved: E initial = E final

a) @ 30.0 m

mgh1 = mgh2 + 1/2mv^2

(72)(9.81)(1.20 x 10^2) – (72)(9.81)(30) = KE = 63 568.8 J

b) @ 30.0 m

KE = 1/2mv^2

     v = sqrt((2KE)/m) = sqrt((2*63 568.8)/72)) = 42.02 m/s

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) June 4, 2009

The stainless steel housing, neoprene gasket and high impact acrylic lens in the stainless steel hazardous location light are appropriate features for distillate plants, off shore drilling rigs, chemical preparation areas, wash down areas, etc. This Class 1 Division 2 light also meets US Coast Guard specifications, so it can be used on marine loading docks, ship yards and ocean going boats.

The HALSS-4-2L is a heavier duty, stainless steel housing alternative to our HALP-4-2L, which is a lighter duty hazardous location light with a fiberglass housing,” said Rob Bresnahan, President of Magnalight.com. “Both are designed to accommodate corrosive environments , like saltwater, that would corrode our aluminum casting based explosion proof lights, like the EPL-48-2L. The lighter weight, lower cost HALP-48-2L model is ideal for lighter duty, structured environments, while our heavier duty HALSS-48-2L is designed for more rugged, vibratory off shore applications. Although every model is certified to UL 844 and UL 595 standards, in comparison, based on weight, the EPL-48-2L is a 65 pound aluminum casting based fixture, the HAL-48-2L is a 28 pound aluminum extrusion light, the HALP-48-2L is a 8 pound fiberglass housed light and the HALSS-48-2L is a 35 pound stainless steel housing light. The EPL series is Class 1 Division 1 and 2 and Class II Division 1 and 2, while the HAL models are Class 1 Division 2 only. While the EPL series is popular with on shore oil rigs, and paint spray booth lighting applications, the HAL series is used for general area lighting in hazardous location areas. The HALP and HALSS models are used for general area lighting in hazardous areas that are also considered corrosive due to the presence of saltwater or chemicals that degrade aluminum or steel,” Rob added.

“For customers looking to move away from fluorescent tubes, either for energy savings, lamp longevity or mercury free implementations, we now offer 20 Watt LED bulbs as an optional upgrade for all of our explosion proof and hazardous location fluorescent lights. These LED tubes use the new Samsung AC LED’s, which represent a much higher level of quality and output. Encapsulated in an aluminum housing and shrouded in a polycarbonate diffuser, we designed these LED bulbs to deliver on the 50,000 life hour promise. Changing bulbs in an explosion proof of hazardous location light fixture is considerably more time consuming that changing a bulb in a normal fluorescent fixture. As such, the time commitment and associated expense of lifts, man hours, etc. translate into real savings when compared to the cost of these LED’s. Changing bulbs only a 1/3rd of the time as compared to fluorescent easily covers the higher cost of the LED bulbs. For LED’S certified buildings and companies penalized for exceeding threshold levels with energy costs, these LED fluorescent bulb replacements can reduce electricity costs by up to half, depending on the current bulb selection,” concluded Rob.

Larson Electronics’ Magnalight continues to add to their line of explosion proof and hazardous location lighting, ranging from high voltage hazardous location flood lighting to low voltage explosion proof inline drop lights. Serving customers in the petrochemical, oil field and manufacturing arena, Magnalight continues to develop a “one stop shop” offering that includes lighting, explosion extension cords and explosion proof ventilation blowers for explosion proof and hazardous location areas. You can learn more about Larson Electronics at magnalight.com or by contacting Magnalight at 1-800-369-6671 or via email at sales(at)magnalight.com.
