Question by SoccerchocX: How does wave energy work? (Please answer quickish)? In science we have to write this factsheet thing about wave energy and I don’t totally get it. Could someone explain it to me? I know that there is a magnet which is attached to the seabed, and it has a coil wrapped around

Question by this is my avatar: how exactly does energy allow physically complex bodies to live? i believe in what science knows. energy cannot be created or destroyed, it is simply transferred from one place to another place. i don’t believe that energy is consciousness, but i believe that the brain is a tool to

Question by SquidbillyReturns: Will this be part of Obama’s new energy plan? This sounds AMAZING, after reading it do you think this is a real possibility and how many jobs world wide could it create? Image by On the Commons Question by : Energy…..we “are” energy!….:-)? I find it very tremendously interesting how everything in the universe, even us, and all matter is all pretty much made up of energy, condensed and compact, fully palpable and tangible energy, to me thats awesome, it truly does change your whole outlook on

1) looks ugly
2) takes up a lot of land
3) a lot of birds get killed by the windmill blades.
4) doesn’t generate continous energy (i.e. only when the wind is blowing).
5) doesn’t generate that much energy (per dollar invested) compared to other methods.

They cost resources (capital). They are unreliable and short lived and there are other power generation methods that do the job better.
They are noisy.
They are an eyesore.

Mainly cost and reliability. Cost could come down with further use and technological innovation. Can’t improve on the reliability, though, and that will always keep wind power as only a partial solution to the world’s needs.
Think of it, as we use more and more wind power, that means more and more the risk that we might need power when it’s not available (no wind that day). That greatly increases the instability of the power system. Estimates in Ontario, Canada, recently suggested switching to more wind power would have to be limited to something like 20% of total output. Some locals would be able to use higher ratios, but nobody would be able to use 100% except in very small areas backed up as part of very large, massively redundant (read overbuilt) distribution systems to bring in power from elsewhere when needed.
Wind power also is noisy and takes up large areas (some other disadvantages)

- Ruins the landscape
- Not that efficient
- Unreliable
- Turbines only last 20 yrs

More expensive and more effort than other methods.
Cheers and good luck!

I think wind energy is the best solution for earth. Hopefully all engineers and developers will notice in short time. I don’t see any more disadvantages than other energy sources if you think globally (not your pocket)
