Heya Robert, first off thanks for making this video it helped me a whole lot. im doing a project for school and im just wondering when your soldering + to – at the start of the video do you melt the solder wire or do you jut heat it and it sticks to the flux??
secondly white are those white bracket things called and where did u get them??

Thanks Robert. This is all very helpful. If you don’t mind I would like to suggest that you extend your tabbing wire completely to the bottom of the top (neg) side of your cells. That is why you are loosing some of your voltage. A small bit for sure, but it adds up after so many cells. It’s very cool that you are making this vids for those of us who are just learning.

for explaining that you have 2 solar cells are equal to 1v you have a multiplication sign rather than an addition sign but great tutorials at 5:47 in the timeline

Robert: nice tutorial so far. But you must get a real soldering iron, either Weller, Edsyn, or Hakko. I like the Hakkos. Althouh you may not need a full 60 watts, get a 60 watt iron – it’s like, a guy thing, ya know? And lay some solder down. Solder is your friend. my website worldproaudio daught com

Each solar cell is rated at .5v right?
If I have 12 solar cells hooked up in series, you “add” the volts which gives you this:
.5v+.5v+.5v+.5v+.5v+.5v+.5v+.5v+.5v+.5v+.5v+.5v = 6v
So now if I add 12 more solar cells (24 solar cells total), we can just add 6 to our total volts which is:
6v + 6v = 12v
So I think you are using “5″ instead of “.5″.
Each solar cell is rated as “.5v”, not “5v”

When u attach negative to positive it should ad 5v when you add each cell.?
How do you end up with a 10v on 2 strains all conected + to – and – to + ???
Abd you say 12 * 5 v serial gives u 6v .. HOW THE HELL DO YOU DO THAT ?????
Serial is like a acid car battery 6cells 2v each serial gives 12v ..

Robert, I’m ‘curious as to why you don’t simply run a single strand of that wire across the full row of cells rather then double-soldering each of the cells individually?

The only problems I have with soldering irons is the tips get oxidized when they sit on too long. I’m looking for one that has replaceable tips. I have tried grinding the tips on a bench grinder or the like but they never seem to work as well as a new one.
