Great question – I wish everyone thought like you.
It will cost you less than $ 250 including entire tutorial, building it, storing the energy and using it, for setup. And there is no further cost. This is assuming you go for the one that I recommend. Others would be more expensive.

Research the market to see what’s available and suitable to your site and wind conditions. First see if your local government will even consider issuing you a construction or zoning permit. Solar is much more practical on a household scale, especially for hot water.
