How do I tell my parents that I failed a class?

Question by Claire: How do I tell my parents that I failed a class?
I’m in college, studying Veterinary Technology, and I just learned that I failed my Medical Calculations class, although most of my other grades were ok – I got a B-, an A, an A-, and a C, and in the class that I failed I got a D.
I’m afraid to tell my parents that I failed a class, because I have never failed a class before in my life. Any advice would be appreciated.

um… yeah, you should tell your parents, they will know someday, but, if you want thought. If you do, tell them when they are in a happy mood
GOOD LUCK!!!

What is the impact of this failure? Do you have to pay to take the class over again? Does it interfere with your ability to finish the line of courses for your degree? Do your parents pay for the class? If you don’t know the answer to these questions, find out first. Then when you get all of the facts, let your parents know. What can you do about it? Did you ask for help with the class? Are there tutors that can help you do better if you take the class again? Lots of times, a D is still acceptable in terms of the overall Degree or Certificate. Get the answers to these questions and then come up with a plan of how to fix the problem. Your parents deserve to know especially if they are paying for the classes.

what ever you do, don’t start it with. “hey, mom/dad, how would you react if I failed a class?” that never works.
And don’t try and butter them up or put them in a happy mood either. It will make them feel even worse cause then they’ll know why you were being nice.
Just call them and say, “I got a D in one of my classes. And that means that I failed.” But make sure it’s not the first thing you say, at least say hi first. But don’t talk about the weather or anything like that. same thing if you’re actually face to face with them.
And make sure they get the message that you feel like crap about it too.
that’s about all I can say, I hope I helped

Just tell them. Since it’s your first failing class in your life, they should be somewhat understanding.
Make sure to show them how well you did in your other classes, explain how hard you worked this semester, and tell them that you’ll take it over again during the summer or another semester, aiming for at least a B.
Best of luck and God bless you!

Parents understand failure. They will be more interested in why than that you did. Explore within your self why and be prepared to communicate that effectively.

Just tell them. I was a straight A (well, barring one unfortunate C- in calculus… grrr…) student until the semester I failed Psychology. It happens to the best of us. Just get it over with quickly and move on.
