Do you think we Could gather Hydrogen from Jupiter to use?
Question by hotsauce_ross7: Do you think we Could gather Hydrogen from Jupiter to use?
Do you think we could gather hydrogen from jupiter one day to use as a fuel? Since Hydrogen is the most common element in the universe, and Jupiter is made up mostly of it, wouldn’t it be cheap and there be plenty to travel?

Hydrogen may be a wonderful fuel, but without a corresponding amount of oxygen (or other oxidizing agent), we couldn’t get any power from it. Not to mention the cost of such a trip and gravity that would crush just about anything trying to land there.

It is not only possible, it is a great idea. I would say that engineering hurdles are always easier to overcome than a lack of political will (and pessimism, for that matter). If we made up our minds about it, we’d be mining Jupiter in less than 30 years.

I think its a horrible idea. Think of the amount of fuel and energy you would require in transportation costs alone, not even factoring in the amount of time it would take for a transport to reach from Jupiter to Earth.
It’ll be much easier to take all the energy that would be used in transportation and to either use it to steam-reform methane or to electrolyze water.
