I think it’s a give and take. Technology allows students to do a lot of things that they couldn’t do before. I can’t imagine having to sit down with paper and pencil and write out a report. Now we can sit in front of a computer and type away, letting our thoughts flow. Editing our work is infinitely easier than it had been. And with the internet, we have a wealth of information at our fingertips that would have taken us hours to discover before.
Of course, you’re right, with these luxuries comes people who will take advantage of them. I think there will always be people who find a way to exploit a situation to their own benefit. I don’t think that’s how the majority operates though.
Overall, I think technology has given students a way to become more efficient and to access information easier.

I have to agree with two points trish made:
“There will always be people who find a way to exploit a situation to their own benefit. I don’t think that’s how the majority operates though.”
I work for a college’s tech lab and have students hacking away at people’s email account and other sites casuing us havoc.. flip side, students learn the field by experimenting as well as being encourage to study and researching it.. otherwise they wouldn’t know how to do it in the first place…
as for plagiarism, it’s easier to find material and copy it to a report for students, however it’s easier for teacher’s to do their own research to find out if students did cheat..
remember before internet, students used libraries and old card catalogs.. unless teachers knew where to look, it was harder to catch cheaters…
today, like in my college, teachers have access to an online database to find the source of student’s info and compare it..
“Overall, I think technology has given students a way to become more efficient and to access information easier.”
Agree, because it would’ve taken awhile for students to find information for research projects, online tutuorials for homework, and sites like this for answers.. without this access students are more likely to become less encourage to do school work or be more ambitious to do more in life..
also for handicap/disable students allows them for once to have some “normal” environment in classroom with other students to interact and learn… (especailly for deaf and blind students) they don’t have to be “section” off..
but it’s a win-lose-win-lose situtation in the sense tech. can either enhance one’s learning or one’s laziness…
