Maybe your answer to speeding things up might be a world war. Look what came out of the last one. Nuclear energy, commercial jet airliners, Moon rockets, all based on technology developed to win a war. So be careful of what you wish for. I’d opt for baby steps myself.

Someone pointed out that technology jumped forward with spinoffs of warfare advances in technology, which was true for the past couple of centuries. It’s true, though only partly true because its joined at the hip to other matters. Steam power came along because the human population needed fast transportation and also had a major problem with the feeding and byproducts of dray animals to do the work previously done by slaves and serfs.
Heavier than air flight came because two bicycle mechanics didn’t believe the scientists of the time when they pronounced it to be impossible.
But the overwhelming lot of the technology advances of the 20th Century, the ‘hidden ones’, were dependent on affluence and discretionary income of consumers, along with cheap fossil fuel energy.
My personal guess will be that the next major advances will involve alternative energy of a sort that’s been bypassed by the mainstream, and that it will rhyme more with the Wright brothers than with the Manhattan Project.

Technology is in an upper logarithmic spiral and will soon enter a saturated state, the end will follow in a couple of hundred years.
