In what ways is modern technology affecting our social skills?

Modern technology can effect social skills as we can write in slang, i.e. k for okay and lol is laugh out loud..so because of using modern technology programmes, for example, MSN so much, people start to speak slang and not standard English.
As well as people may prefer to speak over the Internet using these programmes rather than speaking to someone in person where the social communication skills can be practiced.
The use of modern technology also effects our social lives as most people would correct the spelling using grammar checks rather than reading it through ourselves, therefore showing that most prefer a computer to do this as it is much more efficient, unlike spending time looking for words in a dictionary, so this shows that we have much more of a hectic lifestyles than previous years (dont know if the last idea is valid)
