If it’s an HE side loader then the machine contains a scale. The weight of the load determines how much water is added. HE Side loaders use 1/2 to 1/3 as much waster as a traditional top-loader.

Yes it uses considerably less water, and in most models, less electricity, than standard models. Depending on the model you have, there are sensors that determine the weight or the level of material in the machine. It will then “determine” the correct amount t of water needed for that load. These machines, are typically even more efficient since they are typically designed to work with cold water.
By using cold water, you are saving big-time on water heater costs. I am not sure of the cost of the detergents though. So yes, these are “green” devices. As time goes by, more and more detergents are being formulated for cold water washes. this is becoming very popular.

The washing machines that are sold in the Uk have always had a water filling pressure switch (sensor) to cut off the amount of water the machine uses, The new type washing machines use even less water now. If you are washing towels the machine will fill with more water than if you are washing very thin and lite items.
we supply washing machine spares in the UK.
