even if it has built-in wireless, you still need a source for the wireless to connect to. you need either cable/dsl/etc type internet, connect the modem to a wireless router. then you can access the internet from inside your house, for example. Otherwise, if you’re looking to get internet no matter where you are, you’d have to get a separate wireless card from a cell-phone service (and be able to get reception from them).

Im not exactly sure because I just got a laptop and mine also has built in wifi and I ended up just getting this router. It seems like the router is the easier way to go and it was fairly simple to hook it up and get it working I got mine at staples and just ask a employee for the best one!! Good luck!
